DOT character in file name causes reading fail when importing from USB#190

C

Try using a dot in the name of a fixture created in the builder or even in the name of a showfile. Save this data. Everything seems fine. Try importing it again; you’ll see that importing the fixture will result in a “fail to import” error message. If you try to import a showfile with a dot in its name, nothing will happen. If this showfile was only saved internally, everything will be lost because it can’t be loaded and therefore can’t be saved under a different name. The showfile can’t even be deleted.

We’ll look into this.

What do you mean by “importing” again? After exporting it to a USB Stick?

Yes, I mean importing from USB. The same thing happens locally as well.

What do you mean by this?
I have just tried creating a new show with a dot in its name, containing fixtures with dots in its manufacturer, type and mode, and can open, save and export them - however I am, as you say, unable to re-import those and then have a show file that is undeletable.

I am also able to save the original show from inside the console under a new name.

As such, no data is really lost, as long as you have access to the original console for now.

As far as the backup goes, it is actually complete and the issue seems to happen during the import from USB. As such, I am confident that, once we fixed the underlaying issues, previously exported shows and fixtures can be re-imported.

What I mean is, if you create a show file with a dot in its name, then load another show file, and then try to load the show file with the dot in its name again, it won’t load and will no longer be accessible and can no longer be deleted. Likewise, you can only save the original show with the dot in its name under a different name if it’s actually loaded at that time.

I cannot reproduce this behaviour in 1.0.1 - Did you reboot the console in between?

Even after rebooting I can still open the show file.

Please see attached video and let me know if I am missing any steps.

Sorry about that, it doesn’t work just with USB export/import. It works fine locally.

This will be fixed in the next version.

As mentioned before, this only affects the import in 1.0.1 and older versions. The files are completely fine and therefore will be able to be imported in the next version.
